The Irish Socialist Network opposes the extradition of Sean Garland:

The Irish Socialist Network opposes the extradition of Sean Garland, President of the Workers Party, to the USA or Britain on the basis that it will not be possible for him to receive a fair trial in either jurisdiction, especially in the current climate of imperialism's so-called "war on terror".

It is quite clear from the reports of various human rights organisations that prisoners extradited to the USA are routinely tortured, denied their basic rights and subjected to trials that do not conform to minimum standards of justice. Notwithstanding our profound opposition to the Workers Party's open links with the anti-working class regimes in China and North Korea, the Irish Socialist Network calls on all progressive parties, groups and individuals to oppose the extradition of Sean Garland as a matter of principle.
